In Share Your Memory
I knew Frans as Cat’s husband. I was sitting one summer afternoon with a group of girlfriends on their screen porch when I heard Erik Satie played by Frans on the piano: A moment transformed into a timeless memory. In my mind’s eye, Frans will always be seen from the garden, sitting in his study with wall-to-wall windows immersed in his work.
Frans loved this home layered with art, memories, photographs, and pottery. It was a home where the fire was lit in the kitchen all winter long, where he baked bread and Cat made pies with perfectly assembled thinly sliced apples. Cat and Frans were intellectual equals who lived a rich and meaningful life. Frans was a lucky man who found his calling and turned it into a lifelong career. When he met Cat he found his love and turned it into a lifelong love story.
Death is the loss of life, but not the loss of memory and not the loss of love.
