I have been teaching Frans' work for years now to young college students in my Humanities classes, and through that have felt close to him, like another person posted, without ever having even met him, so my sadness is great in hearing he is gone. Frans' sense of humor, clarity, openness, curiosity and humility always illuminated the important scientific and philosophical contributions he made, all of which will have lasting impacts on generations of students, researchers and the general public. Many sentient beings on this beautiful planet have benefited greatly from his work, which in the end, was deeply moral. My deepest sympathies to his human and animal family and friends. Thank you, Frans.
