Frans de Waal reconnected us with the animals

As a law student my thesis was centered around Frans de Waal’s book 'Good Natured' and his work has never left me since. It occupies a meter on my book shelves. ‘Inspiring’ doesn’t begin to cover it. I had the opportunity to interview Frans de Waal three times during his book tours in the Netherlands, and was always struck by the depth of his knowledge, his eloquence, and his ability to explain the largest of themes in the clearest of terms. I can’t think of anyone who has done more to change our understanding of animals, and by that also our views on our own place in nature, than Frans de Waal. He will be missed.
