When I was working on my first book, I started to feel uncomfortable that so much of it drew from research done by Frans and his associates, but I was often coming to differing conclusions. In essence, I was using his own words against some of his positions. So I wrote to him, telling him how I was feeling, and offered to let him read the relevant sections of the book so he could correct me or at least respond before it was published. He accepted my offer, and we had an interesting exchange over the next few weeks. Finally, Frans wrote to me, "Well, who knows? You may be right. These are important questions that need to be asked." (paraphrasing) I said, "That's very generous of you to say that. Would you mind if I quoted you to that effect?" He responded, "Of course not. You can use it as a blurb for your book if you'd like." No ego. Pure generosity of spirit. I was lucky enough to meet him a few times after the book came out, and interview him for my podcast. What a lovely man.
